The Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll, 291-298
Midnight Oil, Beds Are Burning
Austrailian politics, this time around! IIRC, this is in protest for the ill treatement of the aboriginal people. I have this placed firmly in 1988, and yet it does not sound dated.
Amos Milburn, Let's Have a Party
If this didn't exist, John Waters would have invented it. Or maybe songs like this invented John Waters.
Steve Miller Band, Fly Like an Eagle
Steve Miller is a classic rock staple, and this one can be heard any day, every day, on stations like KSHE and WLAV. For me, I think The Joker is his more classic song.
The Miracles, Going to a Go Go, Tracks of My Tears, You Really Got a Hold On Me
Where I'm #TeamTemptations, Dave is #TeamSmokey. So iconic, that all the early British bands did remakes.
Joni Mitchell, Help Me
One of the of the classic singer/songwriters of the 70s. The story I most closely associate with Joni is that she hired Toller Cranston to appear on her album cover. Toller, full of bombast but also quick to point out when he has been taken down a peg or two, bragged about making it on the LA scene as her guest only to completely misread the party. And his appearance on her album cover was as tiny as a gnat. Sorry, T.
Moby Grape, Omaha
One of those bands that is always referenced, but I don't think I've ever heard it. It's loud, garage-y, somewhat dated. Surprised it hasn't appeared on an episode of Little Steven's Underground Garage. Eh? It's ok.
